Submitting a film

Is there an entry fee?

No. Submissions are free for all tracks.

What formats and lengths do you accept?

We accept features, documentaries, shorts, and experimental work of any length — except the Youth Track, which is limited to 8–10 minutes. All films must be submittable via a screener link (Vimeo, Google Drive, or similar). We'll follow up on projection formats closer to the festival.

Can I submit to more than one track?

Yes. If your film fits more than one track, check all that apply on the submission form.

Does my film need to be a premiere?

No. We have no premiere requirements. Films that have screened elsewhere — including at other festivals — are welcome.

My film is not in English. Can I submit?

Yes. All non-English-language films must include English subtitles.

Who can submit to the Youth Track?

Films must be made by current middle or high school students in the St. Vrain Valley School District or nearby communities. Films should be 8–10 minutes long.

When will I hear back?

We'll notify all filmmakers of our programming decisions well in advance of the festival. Specific notification dates will be announced as our programming timeline takes shape.

What rights are you asking for?

We ask for the right to screen your film at the Niwot Film Festival only. We are not acquiring distribution rights or any other rights to your work.

Attending the festival

Are screenings free?

Most screenings are free or pay-what-you-can. Our goal is a festival without a velvet rope — film should be accessible to everyone in the community.

Where is Niwot?

Niwot is a small historic town in Boulder County, about fifteen minutes northeast of downtown Boulder, Colorado. The festival is walkable once you're there.

How do I get updates on programming and tickets?

Email us at niwotfilmfest@gmail.com and we'll add you to the list. Programming announcements, ticket news, and volunteer calls will go out as the festival takes shape.
